Your products, configured and quoted online.

Your customers pick their options, see the result in 3D and leave with a quote. I build these configurators and the web apps behind them, for manufacturers and the shops that sell their products.

Change the length, height, infill and colour: the 3D view and the bill of materials follow. Nothing is sent anywhere, it all runs in your browser.

From an Excel sheet to a configurator

Fence calculators, online since 2017

The online fence calculator
The Klosup fence calculator, on a tablet.

My friend Dédé, thirty years on the factory floor, had built a detailed Excel sheet to answer the phone calls of sales advisers in the DIY stores that sold our fence kits. Before he retired, he stopped me in a corridor and asked:

“Could you put this on the website, so the sales advisers can size their customers’ fence projects themselves?”

It was 2017, and the range was presented on a simple WordPress site. With the research, development and marketing teams of Klosea, a brand of aluminium fences, gates and railings, we took the layout and the calculations of the Excel sheet and turned its macros into PHP.

How many posts for which board length? Colour, board width, opacity, total length, number of corners: each choice builds the shopping list, with the factory reference of every part. The rules are adapted for each sales channel, including the Klosup range sold at Leroy Merlin.

The result: a PDF shopping list to print before going to the store, with an estimate of what the fence will cost. Since 2017, the calculator has been advising the sales advisers.

What a configurator changes

Customers quote themselves.
They pick dimensions, options and colours, see the result in 3D and leave with a PDF quote.
Orders arrive complete.
Every combination is checked against your production rules before it reaches you.
Your team stops redrawing.
The same tool produces installation diagrams and bills of materials for the workshop.
Ready for retailers.
The carport configurator built for Cadiou Industries also serves Leroy Merlin distribution in France and Spain.
It keeps working.
The fence calculators have been online since 2017, tested before every release.
It talks to your software.
Orders to your shop, PDF quotes and diagrams, data exchanged with your business software through an API.

Case study: Cadiou Industries, Locronan

Cadiou Industries sells gates, fences, carports and outdoor cladding as kits. Since 2017 I have built the tools that let their customers configure and quote these products online.

Every release passes automated browser tests on separate development, staging and production environments.

From first call to launch

  1. 1

    First call

We list your products, options, rules and where your data lives. You receive a fixed quote.

  2. 2

    Working prototype

A configurator with your real products, tested by your team and a few customers before the full build.

  3. 3

    Launch and support

Tested, secured, connected to your shop or business software, then maintained for as long as you use it.

Questions before we start

How much does a configurator cost?

It depends on the number of options and the rules between them. After the first call you receive a fixed quote, before any development starts.

How long until it is online?

The calendar is part of the quote. A working prototype comes first, so you test with your real products early instead of waiting for the end.

Can it connect to our shop or business software?

Yes. Past configurators send orders to PrestaShop, generate PDF quotes and diagrams, and exchange data with business systems through an API.

Can retailers use it too?

Yes. A configurator can run on your own site and for partner stores. The carport configurator built for Cadiou Industries also serves Leroy Merlin distribution in France and Spain.

Who maintains it after launch?

I do, for as long as you use it. The fence calculators have been online since 2017 and are still updated.

Who owns the code?

You do. The source code and your data are delivered with what you need to host them anywhere.

Do you work with our designer or agency?

Often. I work alongside graphic designers, developers and hosts, and fit into the team you already have.
