Breton and Irish tunes, for dancing.

I play flutes, the transverse flute (fleüt a dreuz in Breton) and the low whistle, in Dour Laouen. I also write tunes in the forms dancers know.

Dour Laouen.

Dour Laouen

Dour Laouen is a musical round trip between the smoke of old Dublin and the mists of the Porzay. It started in the lanes and ostalerioù (pubs) of Locronan, and takes its name from the hamlet of Dour Laouen in Pouldergat, at the gates of the Douarnenez country and its sunken city of Ys.

Dour Laouen means happy water: the memory of an dro journeys from Cornouaille to Auvergne and its bourrées, and beyond. Fest-noz and Irish music, to dance to.

Original tunes

I compose in the forms we play for dancers: an dro and hanter dro, plinn, waltzes, mazurkas, jigs and reels. A new tune is tested where it belongs, on the dance floor, before it finds its place in a Dour Laouen set.

Two recordings to start with: a hanter dro, and two gavottes in ton simple played with Olivier Louvel in Reuz Boutou. Scores and more recordings will follow.
